Antiques & Interior Design

Intuition, inspiration, and intelligent thinking - the fundamentals required to achieve creative and beautiful interiors; and alongside is knowing how interiors and furnishings have developed over a long period of history, understanding the work of the makers and craftsmen and the materials they used and, perhaps most fascinating, how stylistic influences have come in and out of fashion over the centuries.

Combining period detail with an awareness of particular furnishings, client preference and overall design specifics to achieve the absolute right note for any room or house, be it contemporary or traditional, is a real art. The age and period of a room is defined by the detail of its fittings, the pattern of the cornice, the type of fire surround or even the profile of a skirting board – using such guides, we can help amplify a known period by introducing furniture, pictures and objets d’art typical of the time.

Just as interesting and successful is to introduce beautiful pieces from maybe two hundred and fifty years ago into a 21st Century setting - the airy spaces of a granary conversion or contemporary build can provide the perfect context for, say, an 18th Century English oak low dresser

Our particular strength is the introduction of one or two distinctive or decorative pieces to define a particular space - giving character to a hallway or study with a classic 18th Century carved and gilded mirror or a distinctive European Revival walnut throne chair, or using a richly figured marble column to endow drama and interest to a conventional dining room, or celebrating the quality of early timber and craftsmanship by centring an exemplary George III mahogany serving table on the main wall of a modern barn conversion.
