This Rose Medallion porcelain punch bowl dates to the late 19th Century. It is a pattern recognised as one of the most popular ever produced - the quality of Rose Medallion porcelain pieces therefore varies considerably. Early pieces such as this punch bowl are by far the more superior.

The decorative Rose Medallion scheme is based around the central medallion motif with foliate details and alternating reserve panels of flora, fauna with birds and conversation pieces forming the border around the base of the bowl. As the sides flare, the panels increase to six on the inside and another six on the outside.

The whole piece and all decorative panels bordered with vivid green fauna and rich crimson peony flowers, the borders and edging highlighted in gold.

The early Rose Medallion porcelains such as this punch bowl were not marked. After 1890 pieces bear the marks China/Made in China; and various spurious stamps appear on modern versions of the pattern
