Fine Antique Regency Mahogany Cheval Mirror / Dressing Mirror, c.1820
Fine Antique Regency Mahogany Cheval Mirror / Dressing Mirror, c.1820
An elegant and handsome English Regency period freestanding mahogany cheval (dressing) mirror, dating to circa 1820. This classic piece features a well-proportioned, rectangular mirror plate encased in a molded mahogany frame with crossbanded detailing.
The mirror is supported by a superb pair of ring-turned and baluster columns, topped with crisp, distinctive beehive/pommel finials. The frame adjusts seamlessly to different angles via its original brass swivel turn-bolts on either side.
The entire structure is raised on a robust end-support base, joined by a matching turned lower stretcher and resting on four elegant, sweeping splayed legs. The legs retain their original brass cap castors, allowing the full-length mirror to be moved easily around a bedroom or dressing room
The mahogany boasts a lovely warm color and a deep, historic patina. A highly functional and classic decorative addition to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
