A 19th Century Mahogany and Ebonised Pedestal
A 19th Century Mahogany and Ebonised Pedestal
A handsome pedestal with carved detail of elegant tapering form, dating from the late 19th century.
The pedestal features a finely carved pierced frieze beneath the moulded top, with crisp geometric decoration typical of the period. The body tapers gracefully to a stepped plinth base, supported on four bun feet, giving the piece excellent proportion and a strong architectural presence.
Originally intended as a torchère or display pedestal, it is equally suited today as a stand for a bronze, bust, sculpture, ceramic vessel, table lamp or specimen plant. Its restrained design allows it to sit comfortably within both period and contemporary interiors.
The pedestal remains in very good antique condition, structurally sound throughout, with only minor age-related marks and wear consistent with careful use over more than a century. It has been professionally cleaned and sympathetically presented while retaining its original character and patina.
A quality decorative piece with timeless appeal.
