Carved and giltwood sculpture bust of Sir Isaac Newton elevated on a black turned pedestal base. In original condition, the gilding in places chipped revealing the white gesso surface and the pine wooden base.

Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727) is known for his work as an English Physicist and mathematician. His work was notable at the peak of the scientific revolution in the seventeenth century. Born in the small Hamlet of Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, he did not excel in school where he was taught the classics , he eventually studied at Trinity college, Cambridge after a spell of estate management and farming at age seventeen. Isaac spent his academic life at Trinity both as an undergraduate and a Fellow, finally becoming Master of the college. His life was extraordinary in terms of scientific, academic and political achievements. Sir Isaac Newton was laid to rest in Westminster Abbey.
